Kershaw wins #20

Kershaw wins #20, originally uploaded by Robbie.

Though the decisive moment is perfect here in this photo, I actually like the effects put into place on this photograph. Sports photos don’t usually lend themselves to dramatic editing effects, but this one seems to work.

Note the photographer information under the image. This is a photo I found in the Flickr pool “Dodgers” while trying to find a group to join.

Turner Field Pano

Be sure to click the photo to view it Larger on Flickr.

This was my first visit to Turner Field, home of the Atlanta Braves, so that means me running around with my camera, traveling to different decks to get different views, and getting my obligatory panorama shot of the massive structures.

Our seats were behind the visitor’s dugout (we splurge on vacation trips sometimes), so I traveled up to the top deck to get a great view of the whole stadium, which is where my Aunt/Uncle and their daughter and her son were sitting for the game. And this is the view.

I’ll be posting a synopsis and recap of our two baseball games there soon, as well as some photographs of the players in action and walking to dugouts, etc. So for now, soak in the great view of Turner Field. I was honestly impressed by the stadium overall, as well as the steady crowds that frequent it.

James Loney

Interesting thought: James Loney is a lefty at both throwing and batting, yet he signs autographs with his right hand. I know it’s tough for lefties in such a right-handed world; and I’ve heard of other “lefties” being somewhat ambidextrous throughout their life. Writes left, but kicks right? Etc, etc.

Anyone else like this? Similar stories?

Dodger Stadium Panorama

Dodgers vs Giants, May 18, 2011

Dodger Stadium, the mecca of any Dodgers fan, is one one of the buildings have photographed the most in m life. It’s such an awe-inspiring stadium that I can’t put a camera down.

It really is a mecca for us Blue fans. When we were prepping for the game, we had to dress ourselves in our fan regalia, including shirts, jerseys, caps, etc. I had three layers of Dodgers regalia on during our trips to the ballpark. Fanship is like a religion, only without the whole philosophical thing.

I haven’t had the opportunity to get field-side seats yet, though our seats this year were significantly better than the ones we had last year by the left field foul pole. Maybe once I get those seats, I’ll be able to get some ideal positioning. I’ll be posting another panorama of the stadium from directly behind home plate, loge level, in the coming days as well.

This is also my new desktop wallpaper.

Baseball #2

20110520-113529.jpg

This second game at Dodger Stadium is what the whole trip was centered around. We knew we wanted to see a game, visit family, and enjoy the area. So why not have it centered around one if the greatest rivalries in sports?

We took the bus from LA Union Station straight to Dodger Stadium. This is a newly added bus just for game days and free to ticket holders – and a great idea.

You haven’t had a hot dog until you’ve had a Dodger Dog.

The game started rather poorly for the Dodgers, but they fought their way back in the 8th inning, tying it 5-5, only to have Cody Ross of the Giants hit a 3-run homer. Overall, this game was more exciting than the one we saw on Monday (as we were all standing and cheering during the 8th inning), though it still ended in a loss.

Of my three games to Dodger Stadium, they have lost all three times: to the Yankees last summer, Brewers on Monday, Giants on Wednesday. I’ll just have to try and improve my win percentage with some more games in the coming years.

If you were wondering, here’s our seats. We were on the second deck, 20-rows back. Not bad – the loge section is a good spot to have seats, though you lose some fly ball viewings if you’re in the back.

Typical Dodger fans, leaving before the end of the game. You definitely saw a lot of people leave after Cody Ross’s home run in the top of the 9th.

And one more nighttime photo of the backside of their iconic scoreboard.

This concludes our trip to LA. I hope you enjoyed your flight.

Baseball #1

20110518-080252.jpg

As I mentioned in an earlier post, baseball is my pastime, my interest, and something that brings us together.

On Monday, May 16th at Dodger Stadium was Andre Ethier night, commemorating his 30-game hit streak earlier in the season (it’s on the 16th, because that’s his jersey number). They had special $30 tickets and 30% off Ethier merchandise (we got a bobble head).

The photo above is from our seats – they’re great for watching the game, and I was able to get some interesting perspectives in photos that included the deck above and some crowds.

Believe it or not, I have been taking my 40D around with me. I took some photos to stitch together for some high-res panoramas when I get home. Maybe I’ll post some from that camera later. We’ll see.

Too bad the Dodgers lost to the Brewers 2-1 that night. We will be rooting for them again today against the Giants! It’s my first ever Dodgers-Giants game. We will see how heated it gets in Dodger Stadium tonight.

By the way, Brittany looks pretty adorable in her jersey.

It’s Tiiiiime for Dodger Baseball

As any follower of my Twitter account (@PhotoDijit) would know, I took a trip to Southern California for some family action, highlighted by a couple baseball games. When we landed on Thursday, June 24th we hung around for a couple hours then went off to the Dodgers at Angels game in Anaheim.

I wanted to highlight that day by sharing one of my favorite shots from the game, showing one of my favorite Dodgers players, Andre Ethier.

_MG_0234

We had great seats that day, sitting only one section down from the first-base dugout where the Dodgers were for the series. It was an excellent vantage point for shooting photos around first base.  I brought my telephoto lens, which enabled me to get such great photos of people I only see on TV.

On a techy note, though, I had to rent a Canon 5D since my 40D was in the shop for some repairs. Switching from ASP-C sized sensor to the full-frame sensors is quite a bit of a change when shooting sports – the crop factor really is a benefit when you’re dealing with far away subjects.

Many more photos can be seen on my Flickr account.

Dodger Stadium Panorama

This iPhone 4 has such a better camera in it, that it’s essentially a point and shoot for me. And with certain apps, makes the possibilities almost endless.

This is my first trip out to California since I was three years old. Also, my first trip to Dodger Stadium that I can remember. I love that I’m a photographer and have the ability to take home great photographic memories of events like this.

Want Some More Baseball?

So here I am, out in California typing up a new mobile blogpost in my new iPhone 4, which makes mobile blogging extremely more efficient. I never blogged on my 3G since it was just so slow and buggy.

But enough of tech talk. We hit up Angel Stadium Thursday afternoon to see the Dodgers kick ass!

Of course, I got better photos on my rented 5D. But this will do for now.

AND DODGER STADIUM ON SUNDAY!!!!
