Mother and Son, Two Months Apart
If there’s anything I’ve learned over the course of working with Elizabeth, John and Roland is the bond that is created between a couple with a newborn, and the bonding of the new family. People tell you it happens, but until you witness it from start to finish, it’s not appreciated or understood. I suppose I won’t fully grasp its importance until it finally happens to me, but until then, this is probably the closest I’ll come.

Roland Zank (Wazowski)
Roland is one month old! (Plus a week or so as of this writing.) So, we did some more photos, as well as the belated second part of a diptych involving him inside and outside of his mother Elizabeth’s belly. I photographed Elizabeth while she was still pregnant which can be seen here and here as well. Joshua (her older son, almost 3 years old) posed quite well, as seen in the “Bros” post.
There are more photos of Roland on another post from when he was a newborn. They grow up so quickly don’t they.

Pinhole-esque in a Digital World
This whole mobile phone photography revolution is wonderful. We can make quality images with predefined aesthetics while on the go. The basic rules of photographic quality still apply here though – a good photographer can make a great photo out of poor equipment and a bad photographer still makes bad photos even with great gear and presets – but it has brought at least moderately interesting image creation to the masses.

Dames Point 2
Here’s another shot of the Dames Point, only this time, from on the bridge.
Hipstamatic and my iPhone enable me to take photographs that are otherwise more difficult or impossible with a larger camera. Ironically, 35mm film-based cameras were the small cameras “back in the day.” but now, 35mm based digital cameras, like my 40D, is a large camera by today’s consumer standards. So, the iPhone is the compact always-there camera of the modern day.

Many Mickey Mouse
Walt Disney World is marketed as the Happiest Place on Earth. Sure, that’s probably true. Things are what you say they are. Thus, if you believe what they say, then it is the Happiest Place on Earth.
Mickey Mouse makes that happen. He is shown here on an ordinary store shelf, something you expect and see around every corner in these theme parks and frankly, any store. This one is different.

Hudson and Asami, August 13, 2011
Hudson is a friend of mine from back in the day of playing DDR (an arcade game) across the state of Florida. I met a lot of good friends this way. I was glad to help with his wedding and volunteer my photography services. I’m glad I did, as I earned a lot of great photographs from the day.

Dames Point
The Dames Point Bridge is the most awe-inspiring bridge in Jacksonville. The bridge is massive, making you feel puny on your way through it. The harp cabling extends ahead and behind you as you progress, leading you up, then back down, then up and back down again. The scenery around the bridge is natural fused with industrial while tug boats pull tankers through the river, boating docks lie along the coast and acres of open land lay around it.

“This Is Why Baseball is the Greatest Game…”
I just witnessed one of the most stunning and exciting nights of baseball so far in my lifetime.
The title quote comes from Tim Kurkjian, quoted again here:
“That [has] to be the greatest games played in one regular season night in the history of baseball. We played 200,000 games in the history of this sport and there cannot have been a regular season night quite like tonight.” -Tim Kurkjian, ESPN
Baseball is a lot about stats. They track everything. But when you’re in the moment and on the spot, stats have little importance. The only thing that does matter is what’s in front of you and what’s about to happen. That is the marvel of baseball. I just witnessed a sub-.200 hitter hit a home run to tie the game in the team’s potential final strike of the season. I just witnessed a team come back 7-0 to win their most important game of the season and win in extras.
That sounds like a life lesson. But what do I know?

Roland Clyde Zank
Two great friends of mine, John Zank and Elizabeth Alters, had their baby boy early Thursday morning, September 22nd, 2011. His name is Roland Clyde Zank. Thus, I just had to take some newborn photos of him to help commemorate. John is the first of our group of friends from high school (and junior high!) to have a baby, so this is a milestone not just for him, but for all of us.
