How To Be An Artist

This should be a worthy substitute for my Senior Portfolio class. Yeah. I don’t know why they didn’t show this to us in Art School a long time ago.

I’ve been in constant internal battle on the difference in viewpoint of art and artistry between those involved in art, and the popular/common viewpoint towards art making. I’m been thinking of who to ease this difference. This poster is not reassuring that those gaps can be bridged.

There are four sentences in the middle that say, “Take lots of naps. Give money away. Do it now. The money will follow.”

That’s reassuring.

Suki Headshot – Fashion 2010

Suki Headshot, originally uploaded by bwhitlock55.

Here’s a dominant male headshot that was photographed for my Fashion Photography class. I love the black and white mix i applied here, as well as the soft white on the background and low contrast between the skin and the background. This was potentially one of the best studio shoots I’ve had, I believe.

Tyler Headshot

Tyler Portfolio, originally uploaded by bwhitlock55.

I am just rediscovering some work I did about a month ago. I know, that sounds kinda funny, but the more I let some work sit, the more easily I can look at it objectively.

I knew this photo was good, but the more I let it sit on my drives and on Flickr, the more time it has to marinade, and thus the more I like it. This shot is a good example of that. It so technically successful as well as being a solid portrait.

Daisy Screaming

I have a scary kitten now.

Besides that, I love the mixed light temperatures here. Camera set to daylight, with diffused sunlight coming through the window. To add something additional the the photo, I simply turned on my desk lamp that had a tungsten bulb in it. Warm from the left, neutral from the right.

BASEBALL BASEBALL BASEBALL

I’ve really been into baseball this season. I played when I was young, which made me really appreciate the game and the pastime.

So Pops and I went on a little journey. We took a drive down to St. Petersburg, FL to see the Tampa Bay Rays take on the Chicago White Sox in Tropicana Field.

I love baseball. And it’s even better live.

So here are some photos.

This is the view from the main parking lots.

This is the little logo that’s on all the caps on the end of the row of seats. It’s pretty representational of the dome itself.

It’s the view from our seats.

And an even better view from our seats. Be sure to click on it to view it larger via Flickr. (Click on “Original Size” once you’re there.)

Matt Garza, pitcher. He did NOT start today.

But Jay Shields sure did.

And of course, everyone’s favorite, Evan Longoria.

There are a lot more player’s photos on Flickr, too. I’m only posting a couple here.

It was Pena’s figurine day. According to the box that belonged to the six year old down the row from me, it’s a toothbrush holder. Haha.

And finally a shot from behind home play showing the whole field and the dome in all it’s glory.
